Principal’s Message

Eastfield Family and Friends:
It is sheer joy and my humblest pleasure to serve you as Principal for the 2017 - 2018 school year.  Our staff and students gave 100++% in 2016-2017 and we are a school on the move!  We thank the Eastfield Community, as well as the wider community of McDowell County that we serve as a school of choice, for their confidence in us to do great things for kids!  We know your kids are your most prized possessions, and we are grateful you entrust them to us to prepare them for tomorrow while providing successes right now.

What Makes EGMS Unique?
  • School of Choice- we have an open enrollment policy for any family interested in EGMS
  • Balanced Calendar-we operate on the 45/15 split-9 weeks in session with a 3 week break Fall, Winter, and Spring.  Students enjoy a full month of vacation in the summer.  Our students are in school the exact number of days as traditional calendar sites.  We choose to balance our breaks throughout the school year.
  • Intercession Camps-because of our balanced calendar we are able to extend learning opportunities by providing 36 additional hours of Reading or STEM Camps during our Fall Intercession  and 36 hours during our Spring Intercession
  • Splash-We are a Dual Language, Spanish Immersion Site.  Parents can choose to enroll students in our language program.  We have one Splash class at every grade level K-5th.
  • Magnet School-We are a global magnet school.  We are globally themed with the following characteristics: Splash, math delivery follows the philosophy of teaching from Singapore, and we integrate a global theme big idea each nine weeks across content.

Lunch With Leaders

The Lunch with Leaders Program is designed to offer our students a chance to interact with leaders in the community that come from various careers, backgrounds and interests. Leaders are paired with a student or students and have lunch with that student (s) along with other Leaders and their students. The leaders and the student are provided with some "talking points' that will help them get to know each other.

Lunch with leaders will be twice a month for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders - Our goal is to let all upper grade students have the opportunity before the school year is up.
