Young Chefs

Eastfield Young Chefs
Thank you to everyone who made Young Chefs possible this year. Please take a look at our photo gallery below to catch a glimpse of the skills we worked on over these past 10 weeks: you will see your elementary students practicing slicing & chopping, egg cracking, kitchen sanitation, taking temperatures, kneading dough, flipping pancakes, poaching chicken, and building cakes. If you look extra closely you might see all of us practicing patience, problem-solving, cooperation, and flexing a few creative muscles as well. I sincerely hope all 28 students who participated this year have enjoyed their work and are ready to practice at home over the summer!
May 2nd Note: Thank you to Mrs Susan Westall, Mr Terry & Mrs Susan English, Josh Fennell, and EGMS for making our first field trip possible.
I hope every Young Chef enjoyed visiting English Farmstead Cheese today.
I appreciated your thoughtful questions, helpfulness to each other, and team spirit when playing I-Spy. See you next week!

April 5th Note to Parents:

I hope your child is enjoying Young Chefs so far. I just have a few reminders to share:

Kids received green aprons this week. These are theirs to keep forever, but it would be a good idea to wash them and bring them back to school to use during Young Chefs each week.
If your child has long hair, remind them to bring a hair tie, hat, or headband to keep their hair out of their food.
Thank you for all the supplies and donations! We have never had so much help & support and it is very appreciated!
Please remind your child not to bring toys, tablets, candy, or similar items to Young Chefs.
As always, call or text if you need me: 828-442-2679. Thank you! See everyone next week!
Young Chefs would not be possible this year without support from the McDowell Local Food Advisory Council, Southern Door Supply in Charlotte NC, Josh Fennell, Michelle Baker & EGMS staff, and parents' donations. Thank you all so so much.
