2nd Grade - Mrs. Fortenberry

Welcome back! We are excited to begin the 4th quarter of second grade!

Upcoming Events:
  • On Tuesday, April 3 students return from Spring Break. I can't wait to see you all!
  • On Friday, April 13 students will take the 2.MD.7 Assessment in which they are asked questions about telling time.
  • On Thursday, April 19 students will take the 2.RI.6 Assessment in which they read passages and work to determine the author's purpose of the text. Please see your child's homework folder for a bookmark called "What the Author Wants."
  • On Wednesday, May 2 progress reports go home with students. Please see your child's homework folder for this important information about how he/she is doing at school.
  • On Wednesday, May 9 the Book Fair begins in the Media Center. Please be reminded that our class has Media on THURSDAYS, so this is when they will have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair as a class. You are welcome to bring them before school or after school to shop as you would like.
  • On Thursday, May 10 EGMS will have our quarterly Parent Night along with the Hispanic Festival hosted by our Splash classes. Please come out to learn more about the great cultural traditions our teachers and students are ready to share!
  • Wednesday, June 6 will be our 5th Grade Graduation Night. If you have students graduating from fifth grade at EGMS, come join us for this night to celebrate and honor their hard work and give them a great send off to middle school!

Learning Targets:
  • In MATH, students are currently learning how to read a clock to measure time. In second grade, students learn to read a clock up to five-minute increments (i.e., 7:35, 4:15, 2:50). Students also learn how to determine if a specific time is categorized as AM or PM.
  • In READING, students are currently learning how to read a text and determine the author's purpose for writing the text.

**Please be looking for information to be coming home soon about several END OF YEAR activities, including our Second Grade Celebration Day, Schoolwide Field Trip, and K-2 Field Day!**

THANK YOU for all you do to be involved in your child's education! Your support makes a huge difference and I am thankful for you!

Feel free to contact me via email (kayla.frady@mcdowell.k12.nc.us), Class Dojo, note in your child's homework folder, or call to set up an appointment to meet!
